| Print
June 1, 1989 TO: RESEARCH COMMITTEE NO. 17-89 RE: DEVELOPING A RESEARCH AGENDA FOR FISCAL 1989-1990 @@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@ Enclosed is a compilation of research activity and proposed projects for the fiscal year 1989-1990 which will be discussed at the June 14th Research Committee meeting. In order for you to develop a realistic assessment of our work load, the projects are divided into three groups: Group A, Potential New Projects; Group B, Carry-over Projects and High Priority Work; Group C, Ongoing Data Collections. Please feel free to comment on any of the enclosed material. In particular consider Group B and C lists which, due to time limitations, may not be reviewed in detail at the meeting unless you have questions about specific items. You should be aware that Group C constitutes our present fixed work load and there is little or no flexibility regarding the implementation of the projects in Group B. Please direct your attention to considering the merits of the research proposed in Group A. These are not listed in any order of preference and during the meeting you may offer ideas for research which are not covered here. The Committee will discuss the proposed projects for new research. Following the June meeting we will send you a list of Group A topics, revised according to the discussion, and ask you to assign priority to projects to be included into our next fiscal year's agenda. We will tally all returns and factor this into our internal budget planning process and staff time allocation. An agenda for the June 14th meeting is enclosed. In addition to the discussion of ongoing and proposed research, please note that we will be discussing the operation of the FUNDS system. It would be helpful to this discussion if you would identify your own company's use or non-use of this system in some detail prior to the meeting so that any problems or suggestions by ultimate users can be reviewed. We look forward to seeing you and as always, we welcome your help in developing our next year's research agenda. Jacob S. Dreyer Vice President and Chief Economist
