RE: SEC MUNICIPAL MARKET ROUNDTABLE

The Securities and Exchange Commission (“SEC”) has announced that the first annual
Municipal Market Roundtable, to be organized by the SEC’s Office of Municipal Securities, will be held
on October 14, 1999 at the SEC. According to the SEC’s press release (attached), the roundtable “will
explore current issues in disclosure and other practices in the municipal marketplace.” The roundtable
will be open to the public.
We have contacted the SEC to express our interest in participating in the roundtable. The SEC
has informed us that they have not yet prepared an agenda for the roundtable but would welcome our
input in determining the issues of importance to the investment company community. In furtherance of
that goal, the SEC requested that the Institute submit an outline of items which members believe are of
importance in the municipal securities area.
