[10882] April 9, 1999 TO: OPERATIONS COMMITTEE No. 12-99 RE: MEETING AGENDA FOR APRIL 23, 1999 ______________________________________________________________________________ Attached is the agenda for the meeting of the Operations Committee that will take place on Friday, April 23, 1999 from 9:00 am to 1:00 pm in the David Silver conference room on the 12th floor of the ICI located at 1401 H Street, N.W. in Washington, D.C. As you were previously notified, an informal one-hour discussion session will begin at 8:00 a.m. on April 23rd for members who may wish to arrive early. Members arriving after 8:00 a.m. are invited to join this discussion session in progress. A preliminary list of discussion items is attached. A Committee dinner has been planned for the evening of April 22. The dinner will be held at the Via Pacifica Restaurant which is situated in the Grand Hyatt Washington Hotel at 1000 H Street, NW. Cocktails will start at 6:30 and dinner at 7:30. Please be aware that the day of the meeting is the first day of a weekend celebration of NATO’s fiftieth anniversary. The organizers have assured us that virtually all of the participating foreign delegations will have arrived by Thursday evening, April 22nd, so committee members planning to arrive Friday morning should not experience any unusual traffic congestion between the airports or the train station and the ICI. At around noon on Friday, however, outdoor activities are scheduled to commence in an area lying between the ICI and Ronald Reagan National Airport. NATO organizers also noted the possibility of protest activity associated with the situation in Kosovo. We do not expect any NATO activities to disrupt your return trips after the committee meeting, but we will be monitoring the situation throughout the late morning and early afternoon so as to advise committee members on travel arrangements as necessary. Travel from ICI to either Dulles Airport or Union Station should be unaffected in any case. Should any problems develop between the ICI and Ronald Reagan National Airport, however, cab drivers should be able to navigate around any affected area. Moreover, there is a metro subway station right behind the Institute’s offices with frequent trains connecting directly to Reagan National Airport. We look forward to seeing you in Washington.
