UPDATE ON JOURNALISM AWARDS PROGRAM

March 28, 1989 TO: PUBLIC INFORMATION COMMITTEE NO. 8-89 RE: Update on Journalism Awards Program __________________________________________________________ Just wanted to let you know how things are going on this year's Investment Company Institute-American University Journalism Awards for Excellence in Personal Finance Reporting. The entry deadline was March 15, and judging will be conducted here in Washington on April 14. We have received a total of 155 entries in the four categories (newspapers, magazines, TV and radio), compared to 111 last year. With the help of Lou Kohlmeier at American University, we have lined up another impressive panel of judges: Paul Steiger, deputy managing editor, The Wall Street Journal Richard Burgheim, assistant managing editor, Money Magazine Eleanor Prescott, executive producer of business news, ABC-TV (New York) Philip Moeller, financial editor, The Baltimore Sun (and current president of the Society of American Business Editors and Writers) Jack Kahn, producer, Nightly Business Report (carried by over 260 PBS-TV stations every evening) Susan Thompson, business editor, St. Louis Post-Dispatch Laird Anderson, professor of communications, American University We will provide you with a more detailed report at the Public Information Committee meeting on April 26.
