RE: NOTICE OF MEETING -- OCTOBER 8TH IN SAN FRANCISCO

A full-day meeting of the Compliance Advisory Committee will be held on Thursday, October
8th, at the offices of Capital Research and Management Company, at One Market, Steuart Tower, Suite
1800, San Francisco, CA. The regular meeting will begin at 10:00 a.m. and will be followed by lunch.
After lunch, we will have a special session focusing on international compliance issues. Members of the
Compliance Advisory Committee and the International Committee are welcome to attend both sessions.
A draft agenda will be circulated before the meeting.
In addition, on Friday, October 9th, Institute Committee members are invited to attend a
meeting of the California ‘40 Acts Group. The Group is made up of lawyers and other professionals
who generally work for mutual fund groups and investment advisers or their service providers based in
the western U.S., primarily California. The Group meets quarterly to discuss topics of general interest.
The October 9th meeting, which will be sponsored by PricewaterhouseCoopers, will be held from 11:00
a.m. to 3:00 p. m. on board the California Spirit, Pier 39, San Francisco. At the meeting, Jason Zweig, a
reporter for Money Magazine, will share his thoughts on the current state of the mutual fund industry.
In addition, John Lawrence, a former reporter for the Wall Street Journal and the Los Angeles Times
who currently is in charge of media relations for Capital Research and Management Company, will
address the Group. Finally, Vincent Bencivenga, Managing Director of the Regulatory Compliance
Consulting Group in the San Francisco office of PricewaterhouseCoopers, will make a presentation on
mutual fund compliance consulting services offered by his firm. If you wish to attend this meeting, we
recommend that you respond as soon as possible because space is limited.
