Privacy Issues Working Group

The Privacy Issues Working Group consists of the representatives of ICI’s members who handle privacy issues in mutual fund complexes. This is the Group that the ICI will consult with when we review and comment on regulatory proposals relating to privacy that may impact funds and their shareholders. It is also the group that we will notify of such proposals and initiatives.

Note: Issues relating to members’ data security and cyber security concerns are addressed through ICI’s Chief Information Security Officer Advisory Committee, not through the Privacy Issues Working Group. The Working Group’s focus is on regulatory issues relating to privacy.

Key Issues of Interest

The key issue of interest for the Privacy Issues Working Group is privacy and, in particular, any privacy issues impacting mutual fund complexes. The focus of this group will be working with the ICI as necessary on any state, federal, or self-regulatory initiatives impacting the privacy responsibilities of mutual funds and their service providers and distributors.

Working Group Meetings

This Working Group does not meet except in exceptional circumstances where an in-person meeting would be of value to the members or the ICI staff. In lieu of meetings, the ICI keeps the members of the Working Group apprised of Federal, state, and self-regulatory organizations’ initiatives impacting mutual funds’ privacy concerns through the publication of memos and emails directed to the Working Group.

Membership Information

There are no limitations on the number of representatives that eligible member firms may have on the Privacy Issues Working Group.
