The fund industry has an opportunity to continue its long-standing commitment to innovation, ICI General Counsel David Blass told the audience during his keynote at the 2016 Mutual Funds and Investment Management Conference. The Securities and Exchange Commission has proposed a rule that would allow funds to deliver shareholder reports electronically, providing the information in a more accessible and interactive way—and potentially saving shareholders many millions of dollars.
But several obstacles remain to this seemingly clear-cut initiative, including the paper industry and a large vendor that could stand to benefit from maintaining the old approach. In his speech, Blass lays out how to attain this innovation in fund disclosure, and why the time for action is now.
