Washington, DC, March 21, 2000 - The Investment Company Institute’s General Membership Meeting, the nation’s largest annual gathering of mutual fund industry leaders, will take place May 17 through 19 at the Hilton Washington and Towers in Washington, DC.
The theme of this year’s meeting is "Continuing a Tradition of Integrity: Embracing New Challenges." The gathering features presentations, seminars, and panel discussions by industry leaders, business executives, and government leaders.
The opening general session on the afternoon of Wednesday, May 17, examines strategies for managing in the changing global environment with speaker Gary Hamel, Thomas S. Murphy Distinguished Research Fellow at Harvard Business School, and one of the nation’s foremost leaders on change management.
Opening addresses on the morning of Thursday, May 18, feature William M. Lyons, 2000 General Membership Meeting Chairman and President and Chief Operating Officer of American Century Investments; John J. Brennan, Investment Company Institute Chairman and Chairman and CEO of the Vanguard Group; and Matthew P. Fink, President of The Investment Company Institute.
Thursday’s luncheon offers a look at the 2000 general election through the eyes of David Gergen, editor-at-large, U.S. News and World Report; Paul Gigot, an editorial board member of The Wall Street Journal; and commentator Mark Shields. Maurice (Hank) Greenberg, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of American International Group, is the keynote speaker for the Thursday afternoon session.
The 13th Annual Journalism Awards for Excellence in Personal Finance Reporting in 1999, sponsored by American University School of Communication and the ICI Education Foundation, will be presented at the General Membership Meeting dinner on Thursday, May 18. Former U.S. Senator Alan Simpson will speak during the dinner.
Paul F. Roye, Director, Division of Investment Management at the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission, is scheduled to address the meeting on the morning of Friday, May 19. Also scheduled is Harvard Business School Professor Michael E. Porter, who will give his perspective on the mutual fund industry and moderate a discussion by a panel of industry leaders.
Registration is $500 for Institute members, $925 for nonmembers and $150 for spouses/guests of registrants. All events will be held at the Hilton Washington Hotel & Towers, 1919 Connecticut Avenue, NW.
