Washington, DC, March 31, 1998 - CNBC Business Center anchor Tyler Mathisen will host the first-ever National Town Meeting on Saving and Investing on Saturday, April 4 in Washington, DC. The two-hour public forum will feature a panel discussion moderated by Mathisen with panelists SEC Chairman Arthur Levitt and ICI Executive Committee and Board member Lawrence J. Lasser, among others. Attendees and callers to a toll-free 800 number (800/377-4755) will be able to ask questions of the panel during the last half of the meeting. Attendees will also be encouraged to take the first step toward financial security by filling out the "Ballpark Estimate," a one-page form that helps people quickly calculate how much money they should save this year for retirement.
The meeting will be broadcast live by satellite to more than two dozen cities nationwide starting at 1:00 pm (EST). The audio portion of the meeting will also be available on the internet at www.investoreducation.org.
The town meeting will conclude the week-long kickoff of the national "Facts on Saving and Investing Campaign" launched by a coalition of government agencies, financial industry, and consumer organizations to motivate Americans to "get the facts" they need to save and invest wisely. The Institute is a partner organization in the campaign. ICI's new investor brochure, "A Guide to Understanding Mutual Funds," and flyer, "Questions You Should Ask Before You Invest in a Mutual Fund," will be distributed to town meeting attendees.
