ICI General Membership Meeting, One of the Largest Gatherings of the Mutual Fund Industry, Scheduled for May 9-11

SEC Chairman Cox, NASD CEO Schapiro to Address Conference

Washington, DC, April 5, 2007 – The Investment Company Institute’s 2007 General Membership Meeting (GMM) will be held Wednesday, May 9 through Friday, May 11 in Washington, DC. The meeting, now in its 49th year, is one of the largest annual gatherings of the nation’s mutual fund executives. Please note this year’s meeting will be held in a new venue, the Marriott Wardman Park Hotel.

This year’s conference theme is “Enduring Value For Investors,” and the three-day event will explore how mutual funds and other investment vehicles continue to innovate to meet the changing needs of American investors. Among the highlights of this year’s conference: Securities and Exchange Commission Chairman Christopher Cox will deliver the keynote address at 9 a.m. Thursday, May 10. Mary L. Schapiro, Chairman and CEO, NASD, will address the conference on Friday, May 11. This year’s program will also feature a presentation by political observers Charlie Cook and Stuart Rothenberg, and addresses by GMM Chairman Brian Murdock, President and CEO of New York Life Investment Management, and Martin Flanagan, ICI Chairman and President and CEO of AMVESCAP PLC.

Highlights of the program include:

  • Wednesday, May 9, The New Environment for Buying and Selling in an Internet World. Internet expert Chris Anderson will address the impact of digital distribution and the ways it has shifted the focus of our culture and economy from mainstream markets to a dizzying array of niche products. Anderson, editor of Wired magazine and author of The Long Tail: Why the Future of Business Is Selling Less of More, will explore how this unlimited selection reveals what consumers want and how they want to receive it.
  • Thursday, May 10, General Session. Leaders from some of the nation’s premiere media outlets will examine the profound changes affecting the journalism business in the Internet Age and the implications of these changes for financial services industry communicators. The panel will include Gordon Crovitz, Publisher of The Wall Street Journal and Executive Vice President of Dow Jones & Company, James S. Berrien, President and Publisher, the Forbes Magazine Group, and John Byrne, Executive Editor of BusinessWeek magazine.
  • Thursday, May 10, Luncheon Speakers. Charlie Cook, Editor and Publisher of The Cook Political Report and Stuart Rothenberg, Editor and Publisher of The Rothenberg Political Report will provide their insights on current political developments and offer a provocative look ahead to the 2008 presidential election.
  • Friday, May 11: Featured Speakers. Mary L. Schapiro, Chairman and CEO, NASD, will provide a regulatory update, touching upon issues impacting both the mutual fund and securities brokerage industries.  Noted China expert James McGregor will share valuable lessons for U.S. executives dealing with the globalization of mutual funds – with a focus on strategies and lessons for succeeding in China, the world’s fastest-growing consumer market.

Registration is $700 for Institute members and $1,200 for nonmembers.
