IRS SEMINARS ON INFORMATION REPORTING

July 3, 1996 TO: CLOSED-END FUND MEMBERS No. 16-96 OPERATIONS MEMBERS No. 32-96 TAX MEMBERS No. 28-96 TRANSFER AGENT ADVISORY COMMITTEE No. 39-96 UNIT INVESTMENT TRUST MEMBERS No. 27-96 RE: IRS SEMINARS ON INFORMATION REPORTING ______________________________________________________________________________ The Internal Revenue Service ("IRS") has released the 1996 schedule for Information Reporting Seminars that will be conducted in 13 cities during August and September by the Martinsburg Computing Center ("MCC"). The morning session will include presentations by (1) MCC representatives on magnetic media and electronic filing of Forms 1099, 1098, 5498 and W- 2G, backup withholding and penalties and (2) a representative from the IRS International office to discuss filing of Form 1042-S with respect to payments made to persons who are neither citizens nor residents of the United States. No "tax law" representative (such as an attorney from the IRS Chief Counsels office) will be present to answer questions. The afternoon session will be limited to a presentation by the Social Security Administration on W-2 Magnetic Media filing. The attached announcement lists the cities and dates for the seminars. Interested persons are directed to contact the appropriate local IRS office (telephone number provided) after July 22 for the exact location and times. We will keep you informed of developments.
